Topes improve to 3-0

WESTPORT — The middle of the Isotopes order came through again Wednesday night as Yim and Gags went a combined 6-for-8 with 3 RBIs to lead the Rose Alley Isotopes over the Misfits, 5-1.

“So far, so good,” coach Jon Darling said of the Topes’ 3-0 start. “Our defense has really been the key to our hot start. The defense is the backbone of the team.”

Leading the charge defensively was outfielder Chris Desmarais, who had one Web Gem diving catch and another nice-but-not-good-enough-to-make-SportsCenter catch late in the game.

Matt Biltcliffe — who joined Yim, Desmarais and Darling at the Rose Alley Ale House after the game — remained lethal on the mound, striking out Smoke Shade in the third inning for his second punch-out in three games this season. Bilty has been so good, the only run he allowed on Wednesday was unearned.

Longtime rival Bulldogs come to Topes Town, Cushman Park in Fairhaven, for a 7:30 p.m. contest Tuesday night. It’s the start of a big week for the Topes as they will face the Wrecking Crew Wednesday in Wesport (6 p.m.) and hold a makeup with the Bulldogs on Thursday in Westport ( 6 p.m.)
