Happy trails to Dom Deluise, the famed actor, comedian and chef who passed away on Tuesday. He was hysterical on those clips form the Dean Martin Variety Show. I’ll always remember him as Burt Reynolds’ sidekick “Captain Chaos” in the Cannonball Run movies. Thanks for the laughs, Dom. … Two sports veterans went head-to-head in an interview on MLB Network Sunday night when Bob Costas interviewed Selena Roberts about her A-Rod book. Costas didn’t back down and didn’t just lob softball questions at her, and Roberts took it all like a pro. Here’s the interview if you got a few minutes. I think I’ve underrated Roberts as a journalist but her work for Sports Illustrated has been stellar and her level of reporting for the A-Rod book appears to be second to none. … Speaking of journalism, Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr wrote a nice piece as an obituary for the Boston Globe, which is hemorrhaging money and is in intense negations to remain in operation. It’s amazing to me that a newspaper that sells more than 300,000 copies a day and more than 400,000 on Sunday is losing so much money. I love hearing that the Union heads, who negotiated no raises for union members, are still taking raises themselves, though. … No. 1 on the list of fun things I need to get this summer? A Super Soaker. Did you know it was invented by a NASA engineer? … Home run balls are leaving Yankee Stadium like it’s going out of style. Good for me, for I have A-Rod on my fantasy team, but it’s bad for baseball. Not even Sandy Koufax could keep the ball in the yard in the Bronx. … It was eleven years ago today that Mercedes-Benz bought Chrysler for $40 billion. Worst investment, ever? … Happy 34th birthday to Nicole Sheridan. No, Not Nicollette Sheridan from Desperate Housewives, but Nicole Sheridan from 2001: A Sex Odyssey, a porno that won her an
award for best anal sex scene. I don’t know If I can, or should, but here’s a link to a Nicole Sheridan porno. … Happy 25th birthday for former No. 1 overall pick QB Alex Smith. Toss up between him, Tim Couch and Courtney Brown as to the worst No. 1 pick of the last 10 years. … Today would have been the 45th birthday of WWF superstar Owen Hart, who died doing an aerial stunt as an entrance to the ring. His harness broke and he plummeted 78 feet down on the top rope before being flung into the ring. He died in the wrestling ring in front of thousands of fans. … Today would also have been Ray Fernandez’ 53rd birthday. Who’s Ray Fernandez? He’s Hercules from the World Wrestling Federation. Of note, in his last televised match before being canned by the WWF, Herc lasted less than a minute against Sid Justice, then got up right after Justice’s mighty Super Power Bomb and walked out of the ring like it was fake and didn’t even hurt.
