Valid Excuse for Missing Work?

It’s a question that’s been posed throughout the history of mankind: Is having diarrhea a legitmate reason for missing work? I always thought the answer was no, but I got an email yesterday from a co-worker who said she’d be missing work because of a bad case of diarrhea. I suppose the answer can be different for everyone. Do you work in a place where diarrhea is acceptable? Would it be audible to others if you had it? These are questions that have to be asked.

One Response to “Valid Excuse for Missing Work?”

  1. So freaking acceptable! How can you be expected to battle a case of diarrhea during work hours. By the way, I am talking about a serious case, not half-ass diarrhea. We are talking ass chafing, uncontrollable, vomit inducing loose stool. What if your desk is far away from the bathroom? Even if you are lucky enough to sit near the bathroom, you still have to deal with knowing everyone around that area is talking about or smelling (depending on the office) your repulsive and explosive bowel movements. I mean, what else is going on when someone is running with ass clenched, to the bathroom. If you are an employer, be decent in times of diarrhea and let the afflicted go home.

    Sincerely,

    EDS
